Bon Odori 2026 at LaLaport BBCC: Free Japanese Festival on 1-2 and 8-9 August
LaLaport BBCC will host Bon Odori 2026 across two weekends on 1-2 and 8-9 August 2026, bringing a 500-year-old Japanese tradition of community, gratitude, and remembrance to Bukit Bintang City Centre. The free-admission festival spans WoW Plaza on the ground floor up to Level 4 and the Central Rooftop Garden, featuring authentic street food, traditional games, pounding Taiko drums, and Yukata photo opportunities. The event carries the official branding "Bon Odori 2026 at 1.1 Degree Lalaport, Bukit Bintang City Centre" and is supported by partners including Bika, The LABS, TUAH, immersify, ZOO, TIF ASIA 1 TOUR, and iCONIQ.
A Festival of Remembrance
Bon Odori 2026 is themed as "A Festival of Remembrance," celebrating the Japanese Obon season with music, dance, and community gatherings that honour ancestors. The festival visuals feature lanterns bearing the traditional three-koi symbol, performers in kimonos on a red carpet stage, and a fireworks backdrop. A white cat mask mascot known as "Neko" promotes cultural discovery as part of the event experience.

Festival-goers can expect gorgeous Yukata photo opportunities throughout the mall, with attendees dressed in floral-patterned kimonos and traditional accessories including fans. The event encourages visitors to embrace Japanese summer festival culture, with decorative torii gate elements and colourful lanterns in red, orange, and yellow hues transforming the mall atrium spaces.
Join the Bon Odori Dance Circle
The Bon Odori dance is the centrepiece of the celebration and is designed to be welcoming for everyone. No prior experience is needed, as participants simply jump into the circle and dance along. Performers in kimonos will lead the festivities on a red carpet stage set against Shinto-inspired decorative elements.
Festive Atmosphere Across the Mall
The celebration takes over multiple levels of LaLaport BBCC, with crowds waving hands in celebration under overhead lantern decorations. Attendees in striped and floral-patterned yukata with traditional sashes fill the open atrium spaces, creating an immersive Japanese festival atmosphere.
