My Thai friend has been talking about Hawker Chan and realized that there’s one outlet here in BBCC Lalaport. Decided to give it a try. Pricing is very reasonable.
Hawker Chan has been awarded 1-star Michelin for one of their dish way back 2016-2019, 4 years in a row. Wow! Impressive. However, the food was mediocre. The roast pork belly is dry. Curry bihun was alright, not satisfying as some that I have tasted. Coconut was fresh, but the boba paper straw was bad! Too big! Regular straws be fine.
Lastly, your staff needs to shower. The BO was really bad.

We wanted to try this place with the original Singapore store being famous and all. I can't say the signature soy chicken particularly wowed us. It was OK tasting, the white meat parts were a bit dry, not particularly worth coming back for in my opinion. The Char Siu was a good version of the fatty moreish KL style though which we really did enjoy.

This is the second worst chicken rice i ever had in my life, with the top spot being the nightmare i had after eating this. All the food were literally only salty taste and ant sizes. Chicken was literally disintegrating from freezer burn, siew yok was dry, char siew was mediocre. I have not tasted the OG store in SG but this right here is downright cultural embarrassment. If this is indeed what Michelin star is about then the only we should be eating from the list are the tyres.

Pic 1: the disappointment here
Pic 2: what I got in Singapore (which is great)
I can only say the taste is meh, can’t rate it any higher.
Noodle + 2 meat is nearly RM25, and a drink another RM5. At this price (and for a Michelin restaurant) I should have a bit of expectation right?
1. The chicken meat is pinkish and I can see the bone is bloody.
2. For the charsiew as an add-on, the oily part’s texture is like jelly bean, I’m expecting something that melts, but it’s just my preference.
3. Not to mention the vege (a few tiny sticks?) and charsiew’s portion (5 pieces?)😅 borderline ripoff
This is a far cry from Michelin’s standard, the main branch should have more quality control over your food or it’s gonna affect your reputation 🙂
As a reference, let’s have a look at what I had in Singapore (pic 2). I had chicken breast as the meat, but it’s still good despite so.

I look at the vege, the overall presentation - no wonder their Michelin star got taken away. Taste it - yep. That's why. It's damn salty like what makes it okay to serve anyone this salty with vege portion not even the size of a strand of leaf. You see those high ratings? They aren't from us who knows what Chinese food should taste like. Only pros is clean environment, spacious (coz foot traffic is super low) and you can use Grab dine out voucher

We compared it to the place in Singapore, but was left a little disappointed. The place was not busy and therefore the food were not so fresh/dry. The noodles were Luke warm, however the flavours of the sauce remain the same as Singapore.

Tasty and decent food here. Their curry noodles with siu yuk was delicious. Chicken rice was good and I rate it as above average. Price wise it was reasonable and worth it to give a try.

Ordered these two plates just for myself. They refused to give any soup for my dry noodle. And tried to make me pay extra.
No wonder this restoran is EMPTY at dinnertime, compared to other shops…
