Animate at LaLaport BBCC (G-47) represents a historic milestone as Japan's leading anime, manga, and gaming merchandise retailer establishes Malaysia as the second Southeast Asian country to host an official Animate store, following Thailand. Operating from November 29, 2024, through August 31, 2025, this pop-up location has been extended due to overwhelming popular demand, providing Malaysian anime enthusiasts with direct access to authentic licensed merchandise without requiring proxy services while reinforcing Malaysia's significant position within Southeast Asia's vibrant anime market.
The store offers comprehensive collections of authentic anime merchandise including accessories, apparel, badges, board games, Blu-rays, books, CDs, DVDs, figures, trading cards, stationery, puzzles, towels, and specialty goods that represent Japan's most popular anime, manga, and gaming franchises. Operating daily from 10:00am-10:00pm, Animate ensures Malaysian fans have access to the same quality and authenticity that has made the brand Japan's top retailer of licensed otaku culture merchandise, eliminating the need for expensive international shipping and import complications.
Strategically positioned within LaLaport BBCC's growing otaku culture hub alongside complementary anime-themed establishments, Animate serves as an essential destination for Malaysia's expanding anime community while attracting international collectors and tourists seeking authentic Japanese pop culture merchandise. The store's presence within Southeast Asia's largest Mitsui Fudosan retail facility outside Japan demonstrates the significant market demand for authentic anime culture in Malaysia, making LaLaport BBCC a premier destination for anime enthusiasts throughout the region.
went on the first and second day of opening, the store had mostly popular anime merch and nijisanji, couldn't find any kanae tho TT.. I see a lot of people complaining about the size of the store, but I'd like to remind everyone that this is a pop up store!!!!! meaning it's temporary, if you like big stores with anime merch, go to kinokuniya.

Small store limited stocks at regular retail prices. Queue up to get in as the store is only about 2 room size area. Good to pop by if you happen to be shopping there, there isn’t a need to travel all the way down here else you did be disappointed.
Collaboration cafe is just next door they have a small merchandise shop as well.

Frankly. Disappointing. I'm pretty sure alot of money was spent into advertising it. The store was way too small and barely has a huge variety which animate in japan is known for. mostly sold standees, files and keychains not a single figure in sight (maybe its sold out?) I guess its a great start to have animate in Malaysia already. however the price was way over the market price. I guess i would come again to check out whats new.

Surprisingly not crowded during a Friday afternoon. the store is quite small, by the time I came here, they're decked out on V-Tuber/Hsr/Genshin merch,
but Anime/Pjsk merch are mostly sold out

Why is everything so overpriced? I almost teared up seeing a keychain costing more than RM10..

It's worth a visit. The place isn't that big but it has quite a huge collection of anime merchandises, including some famous franchises like Jujutsu Kaisen, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Haikyuu, Project Sekai and Love Live! The price is quite standard. I personally bought a Love Live! folder. It's quite amusing to find one of these stores around.

I've been wanting to go here for a while since I found out they have bsd merch (it's really hard to find bsd merch in my opinion) and was so pleasantly surprised to see a decent collection here. They have a decent amount of collection for anime merchandise here.
The main ones I've noted are haikyu, blue lock, jjk, oshi no ko, spyxfamily, demon slayer, bsd, 86, kaiju no 8, sao, and some hoyoverse games. But it is mostly vtuber merch.
If your looking for honkai star rail merch however, their collection isn't that big. It seems they focus more on zenless and genshin.
They don't have much option for some of the shows mentioned but their jjk collection is quite big here (mostly gacha tho).
The price range for the merch is mostly depending on the show and the type of merch. Most badges start at RM18 and go up to RM25 (depending on size and stuff). The cards are cheaper at RM11 mostly. The acrylic standee and blocks mostly are in the RM40s range. Plushies I assume are 50+. The files are all varying in price, I don't really know why.
If you find yourself unable to find the store just head over to gsc and go down the escalator, it's right beneath gsc.
Overall, im happy I got the chance to visit the place and came back with some merch of characters i like. I sorta really hope they become a permanent store instead of a pop up. And I hope they expand their collection if they ever do become permanent.

So many of the things on my wishlist are here!
I love it so much — I just wish the place was a bit bigger, since it already feels packed even with just a few people around. Still, it’s a must-visit for fans!
